The turn of the century is one of the most creative, most exciting and most decisive stages of our recent history, and gave birth to many initiatives and companies such as ours.<\/p>\n

Living in the same impulse of a people that spills energy, a young man from Balaguer arrives in Barcelona ready to open his way. It is Josep Tic\u00f3 i Rebert (1870-1936). Enter a trainee in a tannery, Can Montiu, and guess the bright future of furry. With this design, he moved to Paris to get to know the trade and began working at Can Revillon, a famous house now and then all over the world. There he learned the cutters trade with a son of the Revillon house. There, in Paris, the idea of \u200b\u200bsettling on his own is ripe.<\/p>\n

It was a good time since it had just introduced the sophisticated sewing machine for skins (1890), which revolutionized the hitherto difficult sewing by hand.<\/p>\n

The young Tic\u00f3 married Victorina Roig i Falguera and installed her business on Carrer de la Portaferrissa when she was only 21 years old.<\/p>\n

Choose as the name of the Siberia Pelleteria, because Siberia is one of the richest countries in furs around the world.<\/p>\n

He soon moved to Petritxol Street and then to Santa Anna Street.<\/p>\n

The success of the business and the dynamics of the city that leaves the walls to widen made that in 1907 Josep Tic\u00f3 settled in the same place where today is the house matriz, to the right of the Eixample, on the Rambla de Catalunya, chamber with the Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes.<\/p>\n

Siberia was the first fur industry in Barcelona and throughout Spain. Until then fine furs were only used for ornamentation. From this moment on they begin to make garments, especially coats, layers. It is in this sense that it can be considered the pioneer in the introduction of furs.<\/p>\n

With the economic expansion experienced in Catalonia during the Great War, Siberia grew vertiginously. Articles were made for the whole State, even for the Royal House. Then, the tannery factory was built in Balaguer, one of the few modernist buildings in the city, which was demolished at the end of 1982.<\/p>\n

Siberia was not only important because it was the first and main of the country; He won one of the awards of the International Exhibition of 1929, but also it was like a school of new fur workers.<\/p>\n

The years 1918 and 1919 the decoration of the store was completely refitted by the initiative of Josep M Tic\u00f3 i Roig, who settled down as a pellet in London. This one, made by interior designer Carles Rojas with style close to Art Dec\u00f3, is the one that is still preserved today. Moldings with impressive wealth are kept in a literally perfect state.<\/p>\n

Despite the Universal exhibition of 1929, Barcelona and the whole world entered a general economic downturn that deeply affected La Pelleria La Siberia. It was then, in 1932, when Mari\u00e0 Espar, the son of the founder, bought the business from Josep Tic\u00f3 i Rebert.<\/p>\n

With the civil war the company is collectivized together with the factory of Balaguer and the company lives the saddest moments with the death of Mari\u00e0 Espar, in 1936 and later Josep Tic\u00f3 i Rebert.<\/p>\n

In 1936 the Balaguer turtle factory was dismantled and moved to Burgos with dark designations. Merc\u00e8 Tic\u00f3 i Roig is at the head of the house and there is a time of difficulties.<\/p>\n

With the economic recovery that follows the stabilization plan, imports were opened and the recovery became apparent.<\/p>\n

In the year 1959, a great new reform of the shop windows is made and the lobbies are opened keeping the previous ones from the establishment.<\/p>\n

Starting in 1963, La Siberia fur shop offers a very complete collection, required more than once abroad. The house passes effectively to depend on the third generation: Victoria, Maria Merc\u00e8, Josep and Ignasi EsparTic\u00f3. Maria del Carme Almeda and Montse Figueras also collaborate with this team.<\/p>\n

The city grows steadily and the upper part has become a second vital center and, already considering the celebration of the centenary, in 1988, new halls are opened on Ganduxer Street, with a delicate setting, Warm and comfortable<\/p>\n

All the layers of Catalan society, from the bourgeoisie to the aristocracy, through the professional, intellectual and artistic world, have been the client of the house. The names of Picasso, Dal\u00ed and Mir\u00f3 are some significant examples.<\/p>\n

Currently La Siberia remains a fashion reference in the city’s fur and since the new millennium, the fourth generation of pellets, Vict\u00f2ria Espar Almeda and Marc Espar Figueras, carry the helm of the company.<\/p>\n
